Abrysvo is the first vaccine that protects infants for at least the first 6 months of life, following maternal immunization during pregnancy, and individuals 18 years of age and older against RSV. RSV is a common and contagious virus that can affect the lungs and the breathing of an infected individual and can be potentially life-threatening for young infants, those with certain risk factors, such as chronic heart or lung diseases, and older adults.
Each year, RSV is responsible for a significant number of hospitalizations and deaths among the elderly. Several studies have already demonstrated the high efficacy and safety of Abrysvo in both adults and infants. Furthermore, different real-world studies have been conducted, and the first results confirm an effectiveness aligned with the clinical studies results.
Abrysvo is an unadjuvanted, bivalent vaccine that was designed to provide protection against RSV-LRTD, regardless of the virus subgroup.
